Does anyone know much about the weir on the derwent???
I'm planning a trip down there soon in the search of barbel but I know nothing about it as all my fishing has been on the trent. I'm under the impression that no one fishes it due to the walk to get there.
Any information at all would be appreciated, thanks.

Walked up there today for a couple of hours this morning, was fishing maggot and caster. We had a couple of grayling.

Its very deep in the edge off the gravel, even with these current low levels its about 8-10ft deep.

the fast run straight off the weir has a couple of snags in it.

We had the grayling from the deeps and also the end of the fast run.

Is it a long walk from the car park? Was there many pegs you can fish or was it overgrown?

It is about a 15 to 20 minute walk if you park in grimleys locked car park. The is just one gravel bar peg that is just big enough to fit two people on with a couple of rods.

I would want to fish it on a rising river as you could get in to trouble as the water could get behind you.

Well worth a go.

Hi. I park on Wilne lane and it's a 20 min walk but pretty. I've fished it several times this year for barbel and blanked every time but it's not an all day swim. I spend an hour there and fish pegs back to my car. Small baits long hook lengths pal. Good luck.
