In the words of Alan Wright from Long Eaton he notes a "Super Match" on Sunday 3rd September on the Trent and Mersey Canal at Shardlow and Willington for the "Anglers Trust Canal Pairs Qualifier" where in the 5 hour match there were three weights of over 20 lbs at Shardlow.
See below the full report press release for this match :-Angling Trust Canal Pairs Qualifier
Trent and Mersey Canal (Shardlow/Willington) – 3/9/17
1st Vince Ley/David Frost 6 points
2nd Darren Massey/James South 7 (weight)
3rd Steve Broome/Nigel Clayton 7
4th Dave Trafford/Stuart Bird 13
5th Dave Smith/Mark Smith 19 (weight)
6th Simon Roberts/Alan Shepherd 19
This qualifier fished on Pride of Derby AA waters at Shardlow and Willington produced some spectacular weights. Contrary to predictions the leading weights were from Shardlow, where many of the pegs were un-fished this season
Rob Wright fished the 2nd marina mouth at the bottom of the stretch and recorded 27lb 8oz of bream to 3lb, taken on both pole and feeder using a worm tipped with pinkie. Darren Massey was on the first marina mouth and used pole and maggot for 26lb 12oz of skimmers to 1lb 8oz. Vince Ley was in the stretch above the winner and had bream to 3lb for 24lb 13oz.
The Sheffield pairing of Vince Ley and David Frost won with 6 points followed by Darren Massey and James South and Steve Broome and Nigel Clayton both on 7 points with a weight advantage putting the former into 2nd place. 4th went to the Blackpool Pairing of Dave Trafford and Stuart Bird with 13 points. Weight advantage gave 5th place to the Penkridge pairing of Mark and Dave Smith over Simon Roberts and Alan Shepherd, both on 19 points.
The weigh advantage of Mark and Dave Smith ( 12-0-0 to 11-9-8 ) is significant because with 4 to qualify for the final, and Darren Massey and James South already qualified, they will take the 4th spot.
