Grimshaws Lake

Grimshaws Lake is appox 6 acres in size and is fished using the General Members Ticket

This lake stocked with a large number of carp in the range of 4lbs to 30 lbs and is part of a program of ongoing stocking from our stock pond. The pond also has been stocked with over 10,000 roach bream and rudd plus 2000 crucian carp. We do though note that many of the smaller fish have been lost to Cormorant predation - it was becase of this that we concluded that this water was best suited to carp of the larger sizes.

The Club: Olvers Lake

Olver Lake - this lake is named after one of the clubs secretaries - Mr. Richard Olver- he was the secretary for over 25 years and carried out the admistration of the club through some very difficult times.

The lake is for Premium Ticket use only.

This Lake is appox 12 acre in size and has a good stock of carp between 8lbs to 36lbs - also there is a resident stock of common carp to 32lbs and a vast amount of Roach and large bream.

The Club: River Trent

The River Trent that is available to the Members of the “Pride of Derby” is located in two areas, the fist one being at Sawley / Shardlow the other at Willington.

The Sawley / Shardlow section of the river has various characteristics. This is due mainly to its artificially made section and holding weir created in 1790 to allow the Trent & Mersey Canal to cross the Trent to the Sawley Cut and access the River Trent again further downstream. This section therefore has slow deep water downstream from the confluence with the River Derwent to shallow fast runs below Sawley Weir. With the variation of characteristics it follows that there is a variation in types of fish caught. There is a very large population of Bream and Roach in the slower areas whereas in the faster water the predominant species is Chub and Barbel. There are reports of Barbel being caught in the section below the Sawley weir of 11 lbs and above with Bream of 5 to 6 Lb. not being uncommon in the slower deeper reaches.

The Willington section is a mixed fishery with no predominant species, the fish that are likely to be caught are Roach, Chub, Barbel and to a lesser degree Bream.

Access in both of these locations is very good with locked car parks available for all sections, in the area of our Lake and Pond fishing at Hemington parking behind the area you wish to fish is readily available. ( This area particularly suitable for elderly or disabled angler who are only able to walk short distances )

The Club : River Derwent

The River Derwent is possibly the jewel in the crown of the “Pride of Derby” since it is the River that was the subject of the forming of the club. ( see - “About the Club” ).

The section of the river owned by the club runs from the Church Wilne / Great Wilne area to the rivers confluence into the River Trent. This river is totally natural with fast shallow runs to slow deep areas mixed within yards of one another. The river has a very large quantity of Chub mixed with Roach, Perch, Bream and Dace. There are areas of the River where Barble are frequently caught, with fish to 11 lb. not being uncommon. Match results are predominantly made up of Chub from 3 to 5 lb. with winning weights of 40 lb. not being uncommon, in pleasure fishing sessions catches much in excess of this are common.

Access to the River is via three points, two of which are located near to locked car parking areas. ( This River due to the more lengthy walks to some of the sections is not all suitable for disabled or infirm anglers. )

The Club : Trent and Mersey Canal

The Pride of Derby lease from British Waterways 12 miles of the Trent & Mersey Canal. The Canal available to the members of the “Pride of Derby” extends from the Trent and Mersey `s confluence with the River Trent, adjacent to the point of the River Derwents confluence at Shardlow to Stretton near Burton on Trent (The length leased by the “Pride of Derby” excludes 1.5 miles in the area of Weston-on-Trent).

Good sport can be enjoyed on all of the canal but the areas below the various locks and in the Boatyards around Shardlow enjoy the best reputations. For the angler who is prepared to walk some distances excellent fishing can be had where far bank cover of trees is available. The predominant species of fish to be caught are Roach, Perch and gudgeon to be caught in all areas with large Chub to 5 lbs and Bream to 6 lbs in areas around boats and Boatyards and far bank cover. Carp up to 20 lbs are frequently caught in the area below Swarkstone locks.

Access is very easy from various marina car parks to our own locked car parks in two areas, ( many areas of the Canal are very suitable for disabled or infirm anglers with 12 pegs suitable for wheelchairs sited in the area below Swarkstone Locks )

The Ully Gully pond is part of the old River Trent course and is situated adjacent to the “Pride Lake” and the “Redhouse Lake”.
