Victory Cup Match PDF Print E-mail
The Victory Cup Match was fished today on the River Derwent ( Sunday 19th August) The river condition were OK – by OK I mean the river was coming up after a full day of rain on Saturday but it did not come up to the extent where is spoiled the day. Approx 10” on from the normal river level.

20 anglers fished this match ( 20 years ago 125 anglers would have fished this match (where are you all ) anyway the river fished quite well with all anglers catching. The top weight was 19lbs 2 oz – caught one upstream from the footbridge by Terry Wiggins – he caught on castor and his fish were mainly small chub and roach with one bigger chub to make up the catch – this fish was approx 4lbs. 2nd was Vaughn Hill with 18lbs 4oz – he was two up from Terry opposite the roadside – his catch was caught on maggot and was mainly small roach and chub with one large barbell of 10lbs 10 oz – a brilliant fish well caught on maggot on a 5lb hook length. 3rd was Richard Archer with 15lbs 3oz of small barbell – caught off the island 4 pegs up from Vaughn Hill. The make up weights were Ok with Alan Wright on the high bank having lost 5 big barbell and he tells me he also had 30 strikes by pike as he was bringing small fish in - he weighed in 10lbs 3oz from the high bank peg above the pipe bridge. If you fancy a bash in the next match – it is the charity match to be fished on the Derwent on the 9th September – I am sure you will enjoy the day on the Derwent for a very worthy event. Give me a call on 07770 415541 to book in.
