Would all members please be observant in the interests of the club of any strangers that might be expressing an interest in our waters and more to the point the fish in them? We recently had an incident where two males entered our complex at Sawley, presumably with the assistance of one of our key holder members and parked their car on the grassed area at Pride Lake and sat having a beer or two whilst watching the anglers fishing for carp. You might think, what’s the problem, other than these guys getting access without consent what have they done wrong? Until it was noted that the car had Polish number plates and we all know the history on this one. The two guys concerned when asked to leave by our bailiff left without any fuss and were very well mannered. The lesson we must learn is that other cultures have distinctly different interests in fishing than we do. Many eastern Europeans class carp as a delicacy worth fishing for and putting a carp back in alive after fishing is almost a crime, these guys do not think they are doing anything wrong and therefore need education in our traditions and interests in fishing.. What we need from our members is not to take these guys on if they become difficult but if you have any suspicion of person’s intension's please ring a bailiff – the bailiff will address the situation as necessary and if resistance is forthcoming will call the police to intervene. This might be just an isolated case but diligence and co operation from our members is all we ask. |
